Mega Flagship Event of SPDS - DRPI ONLINE - 2020 - attended by Pharma Professionals & Academia

Society for Pharmaceutical Dissolution Sciences (SPDS) in collaboration with Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) organized their mega flagship event for young researchers in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences, DISSO RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS INDIA (DRPI) 2020 - ONLINE on June 4th, 5th, and 7th.

June 11, 2020, Mumbai - The objective of this mega flagship event was to provide an online platform to young upcoming bright research scholars, faculty, and young scientists from academia and industry to exhibit their research work, talent, and findings to the pharmaceutical scientific community across our country. In accordance with the mission and vision of SPDS, the focus areas of research presentations were defined as Dissolution Science and Solubility Modulation; In Vitro Release Studies of Conventional and Novel Dosage Forms, including Herbals, Nutraceuticals & Cosmeceuticals; Pharmacokinetics and IVIVC Studies; Modified Dissolution Equipment and Methodologies, including Bio-relevant Media and Automation; Computational Tools; and PBPK Modelling.

The idea for this event was initiated and led by the Scientific Chair, Prof. Saranjit Singh, NIPER, SAS Nagar, India. The event was conceptualised and executed by Dr. L. Ramaswamy, General Secretary of SPDS and Managing Director of Sotax India Pvt Ltd, Mumbai together with other Trustees of SPDS and academians from different regions of the country, including Dr. Krishnapriya Mohanraj (Principal, Bombay College of Pharmacy, Mumbai), Dr. Varsha Pradhan (Visiting Associate Professor, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, New Delhi), Dr. Mala Menon (Adjunct Professor, Bombay College of Pharmacy), Dr. A.K. Bansal (NIPER, Mohali), Dr. Abba Doshi (Principal, Mumbai Educational Trust, Mumbai); and Dr. Hema Nair (Associate Prof., Sri Venkateshwara College of Pharmacy, Hyderabad). Zonal Chairs included: North: Dr. Farhan Khan (Professor, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi); East and Central: Dr. Biswajit Mukherjee (Professor, Jadavpur University), ; West: Dr. Vandana Patravale (Professor, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai); and South: Dr. N. Udupa (Director, Research, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal).

The sequence of activities progressed as follows: Abstract round, Preliminary screening of online presentations submitted by participants as YouTube link by evaluation teams drawn from academia; Semi-final rounds to select zonal toppers (June 4-5), and the final DRPI online event on June 7th, in which 12 finalists participated, and top 3 among them were declared as winners. Judges for the semi-final and final events were drawn from professionals and experts from the Indian and global industries and from academia.

Dr. Suresh Bhojraj, Pro Chancellor of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research and President of Pharmacy Council of India, inaugurated the Grand Finale on Sunday, June 7th, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ajit Singh, Chairman of ACG Worldwide, gave his address as the Guest of Honour.

DRPI 2020 - ONLINE was the second flagship event of SPDS after DISSO INDIA ONLINE-2020, an important international event, which featured plenary lectures rendered by Indian and international scientists and attracted a large professional gathering of graduate and post-graduate students, faculty, industry delegates, and luminaries from academia and industry.

Ms. Anjali Mishra was awarded the title of “SPDS Young Researcher” for the year 2020 for her research topic: “In vitro Release Studies of Timolol Maleate from Ocular Inserts developed using Plantago ovata mucilage and HPMC.” Ms. Ranjot Kaur was the first runner up for her research topic: “Inhalable Lipid Nanovesicles Encapsulating Voriconazole with Modulated Drug Release and Improved Lung Pharmacokinetics”. Mr. Amit Lokhande was the second runner up for his research topic: “Discriminating Dissolution Rates of Anti Tubercular Drug Microparticles in Biorelevant Lung Media using USP I, USP II & USP IV Apparatus.”

Dr. L. Ramaswamy, General Secretary of SPDS, said that these two SPDS events represent an innovative milestone in the pharma research domain across the world.
