Logan Instruments' PB-M Officially Launching in International Markets
Logan's Permeation-Barrier Membrane (PB-M) is a cellulose membrane. This model has similar acidity to human epidermis which allows the transfer of novel drugs. Regardless of the polarity of the substance, the diffusion of different drugs may be analyzed through the membrane. Measurements with the barrier are easy, fast, and reproducible. Each PB-M's diameter is 25 mm when packed in a 5-cavity plate. The membranes need to avoid sun light exposure and UV radiation. They expire after 2 years.
Logan's very own PB-M has multiple unique features. Firstly, it can better simulate the in-vitro drug permeation through human skin. Secondly, PB-M is non-toxic and harmless to the human body and is systematically produced to ensure the consistency of the product. Thirdly, its serumfree feature is more convenient for storage and transportation. Also, the PB-M has a similar permeation rate to human skin, allowing for more accurate test results. Finally, PB-M is more stable for IVPT/IVRT tests as tests performed using PB-M show less variation compared to other membrane manufacturers (see Figure 1 for the test result of hydrophilic drugs).
The simulation of passive mass transport can be performed by utilizing the PB-M in a conventional vertical diffusion cell (Fig. 2), a dry heat diffusion cell (Fig. 3), and a donor heated vertical diffusion cell (Fig. 4) or other therapy set-up measuring the permeability of a drug.
